Re:  Bo Diddley

Listener Peg, from the Viking Gang, was in London at the Hard Rock Cafe and was in conversation with a young man who was definitely in charge. When she told him what a Bo Diddley fan she was and that she had a CD featuring Bo Diddley, Muddy Waters, and Howlin' Wolf....  The young man said..."Sit over here...."  He put Bo Diddley's original cowboy hat on (remember "Gun Slinger") and handed her the guitar that Bo made when he was a young teenager in WOOD SHOP class in school, let her sit on the couch and let the guy snap a photo... WHAT A THRILL.

Good going, Peg...... now all you have to do is learn how to play like Bo on those strings and you'll be ready to be the new Lady Bo!

Ray Charles

"The death of Ray Charles brought tears to everyone's eye.  Charlie's friend Tom Robinson had the good fortune of seeing Ray in Concert only a year ago, a performance which ended up being one of Ray's last. Ray Charles started out on the Swingtime label...playing old school r n b. His talent could never be contained to a small, regional-style label, nor could it be confined to one genre.

Ray quickly graduated to New School R n B, Rock and Roll, invented Soul with What'd I Say....(he gave it its form and direction while Detroit's Falcons of "You're So Fine" fame, gave Soul its harmonies).

Ray transformed Jazz and then leapt into COUNTRY and WESTERN bringing a new perspective and life to a form that had languished a bit after the Rock-a-Billy era of the late 50's!

Everyone will miss the GENIUS of RAY CHARLES!"
